At Innovative Chiropractic Clinic, we know sports injuries. Learning to incorporate basic prevention and treatment tips into your running routine can raise awareness of how to optimize form, prevent injuries, and maximize performance. Our practice in Swansea, IL is here to help you understand how your body is designed to work so you can avoid running pain and relieve it should it occur anyway.

Common Examples of Running Pain

Even experienced endurance athletes suffer from running pain. Here are some common running injuries we regularly see in our practice and some tips on how to avoid them.

Ankle Sprains

Varying in the level of severity, ankle sprains result in rapid-onset pain that may be triggered by missteps. Swelling, bruising, loss of function or inability to bear weight may indicate ankle sprains.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

Commonly referred to as IT Band Syndrome, this injury results in pain along the outside of the knee, where the IT Band follows the outside of the thigh to the hip.

Muscle Cramps

When muscles are overused or improperly warmed up, runners may experience rapid, intense pain due to muscles contracting and cramping.

Plantar Fasciitis

When runners experience pain on the bottom of their heel, it may be due to plantar fasciitis.

Shin Splints

When running pain is located along the front of the shin, our chiropractor usually suspects shin splints.

Home Care to Help You Feel Better

While the R.I.C.E. Method is the go-to on sprains and strains, foam rolling your quad muscles may help alleviate IT Band issues while stretching can help with cramps, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis. Our chiropractor will assess your musculoskeletal system to determine the type of running injury you have sustained before creating a chiropractic care plan to address it.
